I already like Pop! Yourself, so the new Pokémon collaboration was easy to get excited about. Starting August 28, Funko is adding official Pokémon options to Pop! Yourself, including Trainer outfits, Pokémon companions, and special customization available only at PokémonXP.
The full reveal is in Funko’s official PokémonXP announcement, but looking at the first images, one thing stood out immediately: I like the regular yellow-and-blue Trainer uniform more than the exclusive one.
If you are following Funko’s other releases this month, our Funko Pop August 2026 new releases guide has more of what is arriving right now.
The regular Trainer uniform is the best-looking one
Funko has shown two mainline Trainer designs with blue, yellow, and orange details, plus different uniforms for PokémonXP attendees.
The regular version wins for me.
The yellow and orange make the outfits brighter and more playful, which fits Pokémon really well. The PokémonXP uniforms are cleaner and more coordinated, but they do not automatically look better just because they are exclusive.
If both were available in the same menu, I would still choose the regular design.
I actually like that Funko handled it this way. The standard version does not feel like something you settle for because you missed the event. It has enough personality on its own.
The first Pokémon lineup is exactly what you would expect
The mainline reveal includes Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Pikachu, and Charmander.
No surprises there.
They are very safe first choices, but visually they work. Pikachu is my favorite from the group, while Charmander comes close. The smaller scale also suits Squirtle especially well.
Funko is also showing a Buddy 4-Pack containing all four, so collectors who do not want to choose just one will have that option too.
Personally, Pikachu is enough for me.
The more interesting part is seeing how the Pokémon sits next to the custom Trainer rather than treating the Pokémon itself as another full-size Pop. It keeps the focus on the figure you created.
Sitting Pikachu is the PokémonXP exclusive I actually want
PokémonXP gets several exclusive extras: different Trainer uniforms, an exclusive Pikachu, an exclusive Eevee, and a PokémonXP sticker on the box.
Only one of those really gets me.
Sitting Pikachu.
The event version is shown sitting beside the Trainer instead of standing like the regular Pikachu. It is a tiny change, but the pose looks much better to me. It feels more relaxed and has more personality.
Eevee being exclusive does not bother me much. The same goes for the PokémonXP uniforms.
But that Pikachu pose is good.
If the sitting version were available online, that would be my pick immediately.
You can still make one without going to PokémonXP
The main Pokémon customization is not limited to the event.
Starting August 28, 2026, the regular Pop! Yourself x Pokémon options will be available through Funko.com and Funko flagship stores. PokémonXP attendees simply get access to the extra event-only choices.
PokémonXP itself runs from August 28 through August 30 at Moscone Center in San Francisco, with Funko at Booth #1116. A PokémonXP pass is required to attend.
For Pop! Yourself at the event, Funko is using a virtual queue that opens at 7 AM Friday through Sunday. Queue positions are random, so Funko specifically says there is no advantage to physically lining up early at the booth.
That setup makes sense to me. The event gets something different without making the entire collaboration inaccessible to everyone else.

And for me, the regular release already has the better uniform anyway.
